Decking Tips

Preparation

Mark out your decking area with pegs and string to check site levels.
Remove all turf and lay a good quality landscape fabric.

Making your Sub-Frame
we recommend 97mm x 47mm easy edge pressure treated timbers for flat level decking
we recommend 147mm x 47mm easy edge pressure treated timbers for standard sloped site decking.

Cut ends
Seal all cut end with ensele treatment.

Sloping Sites
If you are building your decking on a sloped site use 100mm x 100mm treated posts set in concrete and fixed at approx 1m centres. These should then be fixed with coach bolts to your sub-frame.

Laying your Decking Boards
Decking boards should be screwed to each joist with 2 decking screws. A standard 4mm or 6mm spacer should be used to give an expansion gap.

Finish
All decking boards and spindles & rails should be treated with a good quality decking oil such as liberon deking oil to prevent splitting and colour fading. Decking oil should be re-applied at least twice a year.

Please call you local savoy superstore for answers to any further decking questions or to get a quotation.
